But even then, the idea of having a random trip to Ireland, say, just for the hell of it. I mean, say that me, you, Richard and Hannah decided to go away for a weekend together and we put together the trip and planned it and just went away to County Cork for no other reason than we felt like it.
That kind of thing. Even planned out, just that getting a group of mates together and going somewhere for no other reason than it seemed like a fun idea.
That kind of spontaneity is fantastic… for those who manage to pull it off. I’d love that, personally. I do have a tendency to contemplate and plan things so it would be nice to throw all that to the wind, every now and then, and just go forth and do something. It must be wonderful to have the freedom to get together with some friends and decide that you’re going to do something together.
Sounds like it’s something in the ilk of a “roadtrip” that you’re getting at. Though, I doubt that in reality it’s ever that simple. Reality comes crashing in with responsibilities, commitments, obligations of life. They’re the kind of things that unless there has been much planning beforehand or someone is particularly privileged, are difficult to put aside. Having said that, I do know of at least one person who is “living the dream”, so to speak. Said dream being along the lines of travelling the world, that kind of thing.
In general I think it’s rare that people are able to do that kind of thing so I suppose what I’m saying is not to feel too bad about it- it’s something to work towards and it’s something you will be able to do some time in the future if not right now.
You know, all over the place, people go on trips to random places for little other reason than because.
I’ve never done this.
I’ve never gone off with a group of mates to somewhere I’ve never been before “just because”.
I regret this. But I don’t know how to go about fixing it.
